Preventive Dentistry:

Our primary goal with all our patients is the prevention of dental disease, and to maintain the teeth and smile in a healthy state for life.   We believe that regular preventive dental care is the most cost-effective way to maintain a healthy smile.  Regular preventive care does not only involve 6-monthly visits to the dentist, the most important preventive care is your daily dental hygiene routine!

Our role in your preventive care can involve the following:
-Monitoring and advising on home care, including brushing and flossing
-Regular dental examination, including x-rays as required, to ensure early detection and treatment of dental disease
-The use of the latest technology, such as DIAGNOdent, to assist in the diagnosis of disease
-Evaluate existing restorations for proper fit and function
-Assess your periodontal (gum) condition
-Examine and screen for oral cancer
-Professional cleaning at regular intervals
-Application of topical fluoride, if indicated
-Application of Fissure Sealants, if indicated
-Monitoring of dietary factors which may be affecting your dental health

Regular dental care is particularly important for children.   With regular monitoring, we can detect any developing dental decay before it requires drilling.   These days, early dental decay can be reversed if it is detected early enough!  Also, we can assess the need for fissure sealants to help prevent decay developing in the grooves in teeth.   Monitoring of jaw and tooth development in children can enable interception of the problem before it develops into a severe malocclusion.
